Position Description: A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Laurie Krug, HIV and AIDS Malignancy Branch (HAMB), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The successful applicant will be part of a team focused on the developing a gammaherpesvirus vaccine. Our lab is dedicated to applying animal models of disease to understand viral and host determinants of chronic infection and pathogenesis by the gammaherpesviruses, Epstein-Barr virus and Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus. The mission is to identify novel targets for intervention and prevention of human gammaherpesvirus-driven cancers.  

Methods used in this research include a mouse model of vaccination and challenge, isolation of antibodies and immune cells from various tissues followed by neutralization assays, high resolution flow cytometry, microscopic imaging, and other state-of-the-art techniques. The project’s ultimate goal will be to translate these findings into human vaccine approaches. Our laboratory is part of a large program project involving many groups with broad-ranging expertise, so the candidate will collaborate within and outside the Krug lab. The successful candidate should have a PhD or MD/PhD with a background in viral pathogenesis and/or immunology. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are expected.

  • Highly motivated candidate with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in immunology, virology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field.
  • Experience in mouse models of infection or cancer.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in virology and/or immunology is desirable.
