PEO Scholarship for female US and Canada resident doctoral students, 2024 applications

Posted by on Monday, July 29, 2024 in Announcements .

Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) is a unique advocacy group for women that has roots dating back to the 1860′s. The sisterhood runs several projects designed to advance education among women, including its International Peace Scholarship, Program for Continuing Education, Doctoral Scholar Awards, and the P.E.O. STAR Scholarships for high school seniors.  As if that were not enough, the organization actually runs its own school called Cottey College.  The four-year school is an accredited liberal arts and science college.

The PEO Scholar award is a $25,000 scholarship given out annually to exceptional women who meet the criteria. The candidate needs to be a citizen of the United States or Canada at the time of the nomination. She needs to be pursuing her doctoral degree at an accredited college or university. The organization would prefer students to be further along in their program, so at this time, students would need at least 2 years left to go. When the scholarships are awarded in August 2024, the winners need at least one year remaining.  Finally, she should be enrolled full-time in her program. An additional note, the more research, additional awards, publications or field work the candidate has, the more competitive.

In order to apply, please send a cover letter and CV to Kate Stuart (kate.stuart@vanderbilt.edu) by midnight, Monday, September 9, 2024. Kate will then compile all documents to send to the PEO Scholarship committee for review. The scholarship is not decided or appointed by anyone affiliated with Vanderbilt University.
