Jackalope Brewing Company is a locally owned and operated brewery that has been producing beer in Nashville since 2011.  While Jackalope beer is served throughout Tennessee, with additional distribution in North Carolina, Nevada, and Texas, the brewery and onsite taproom are located in the heart of Wedgwood-Houston.  Our core values guide us at every step of our process.  At Jackalope we are:

This internship will provide an introduction to commercial brewing, particularly focusing on laboratory analysis and quality control.

The intern will gain exposure and an understanding of brewery operations including:

  • The brew process from grain to glass
  • Planning brewing and packaging schedules based on projections and current inventory
  • Raw material ordering based on projected schedules
  • Beer recipe writing and the research & development process
  • Quality control methodology

The focus on laboratory analysis and quality control will include such duties as:

  • Learning and conducting our quality control SOPs for product that is both in process and ready to be packaged.
  • Expansion of a quality control laboratory with new equipment and procedures, particularly implementation of our PCR equipment.
  • Analyzing quality assurance data, including yeast cell viability, contaminant identification, and sensory panel results.

INTERNSHIP DETAILS

  • Internship will be 8 weeks in duration from October 21 to December 13, 2024 with the opportunity to extend pending review.
  • Hours may vary, but the expectation is that the intern be onsite for at least 6-8 hours weekly.
  • This is a paid internship.

  • Applicants must be a current Vanderbilt University PhD student or a current postdoctoral fellow.
  • All PhD students must have completed all coursework for their degree prior to the start of the internship.
  • Biomedical PhD students must also have passed their qualifying exams before the application deadline.
  • Students and postdocs may not participate in more than one internship at a time.  More than one application may be submitted at a single time, but only one position can be accepted.
  • If you are not in a department supported by the BRET office, we will also require that you complete a form guaranteeing PI approval to participate in this program. Please contact Ashley Brady at ashley.brady@vanderbilt.edu for more information.
