Senior Specialist, Policy Communications and Engagement: Join the AAMC Public Affairs Team!

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) is a not-for-profit association dedicated to transforming healthcare by supporting the entire spectrum of medical education, medical research, and patient care.

The Government Relations unit at AAMC seeks a Senior Specialist in Policy Communications and Engagement, to strengthen and advance the advocacy agenda through communications strategies and engagement with AAMC member institutions. You’ll work closely with the Senior Director of Advocacy and Engagement, as well as the government relations and strategic communications staff.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Craft and execute communications strategies, materials, and tools to elevate academic medicine and its priorities.
  • Develop and disseminate messages and talking points for AAMC constituents to connect with lawmakers and community leaders.
  • Coordinate the drafting and finalizing of public-facing statements, press releases, media advisories, and digital content.
  • Monitor state and local government activity affecting AAMC member institutions and develop relevant messages and materials.
  • Build relationships with communications and press offices on Capitol Hill and in federal agencies.
  • Partner with communications, public affairs, and marketing professionals at AAMC member institutions to amplify the voices and priorities of our members.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, political science, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in policy communications and advocacy, with experience in a congressional office or public affairs firm preferred.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write and track policy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Remote Work Eligibility: This position is eligible for remote work within the Washington, D.C./Baltimore metro area only.

Compensation: Grade Range: $71,600.00 – $133,000.00, with a midpoint of $102,300.00. The AAMC’s compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Final compensation will be determined based on the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, training, internal equity, market, and business considerations.
