 ASPIRE Internship Opportunity

Medical and Scientific Relations (remote) Alzheimer’s Association

225 North Michigan Avenue Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601

December 2024- February 2025

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Our mission is to lead the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia– by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

The Medical and Scientific Relations Internship would work on coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART). The Intern would liaise with both internal Alzheimer’s Association staff and external ISTAART members to meet the needs of the Society’s daily operational activities.

ISTAART is a diverse global network of scientists, clinicians and dementia professionals. Members of this professional organization share common goals: the pursuit of knowledge, collaboration and breakthroughs to advance the research and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. ISTAART members represent over 120 countries, making this a dynamic global community that collaborates across many areas of Alzheimer’s and dementia research. Members have the opportunity to connect with colleagues worldwide, explore avenues for networking and mentorship, and stay on the leading edge of scientific advancements.

The Medical and Scientific Relations Intern responsibilities include:

  • • Organize the preparation of ISTAART communications and announcements via emails and newsletters, the ISTAART website, and social media.
  • • Coordinate the production of ISTAART’s podcasts.
  • • Liaise with scientists and authors of publications from our journal family to make the podcast appealing for them to participate in, and then help facilitate the logistics or organizing the podcast recordings etc. This might mean setting up meetings with scientists who may want to understand the process a bit more, or creating welcoming and clear email communications to make this process as easy as possible for these guests.
  • • Respond to ISTAART queries via email or phone.

Ideal candidate:

  • • Excellent analysis of data
  • • Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
  • • Self-starter and results-oriented with ability to meet goals
  • • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks

Internship Details:

  • • This is a part-time, paid internship, with the opportunity to visit the foundation and meet the team using a paid ASPIRE Travel award
  • • We expect the intern to work approximately 8-10 hours per week for 10 weeks, with the possibility to extend pending review
  • • Work will be conducted remotely on projects determined at the beginning and throughout the internship period.
