Health Research Alliance (HRA)

(remote)

Position: Health Research Alliance (HRA) Platforms Intern

Location: Fully Remote Position

Time Commitment: Part time, approximately 5 hours per week, for at least 6 months

Compensation: $500/month

About the Health Research Alliance: HRA is a collaborative membership organization of 115+ nonprofit research funders who are committed to maximizing the impact of biomedical research and training to improve human health. HRA member organizations represent a variety of types of nonprofit funders of biomedical research, including voluntary health agencies, private foundations, and operating foundations.  These organizations share a common interest in speeding the translation of biomedical science into applications that improve health and in identifying and adopting effective practices in funding health research.

About the Internship: The Health Research Alliance (HRA) Platforms Intern will work with nonprofit funders of health research to 1) collate and analyze data on biomedical funding and 2) develop educational resources to make HRA’s platforms (HRA Analyzer and HRA Open) more accessible and user-friendly.  This internship is a great opportunity to learn about careers in nonprofit organizations and make connections with professionals in a variety of roles at private foundations and public charities that fund biomedical and health research.

HRA administers two platforms that are available to member organizations, HRA Analyzer and HRA Open. HRA Analyzer is a searchable database of awards made by member organizations that enables users to examine trends in nonprofit grantmaking, identify other organizations with similar funding interests, find researchers with expertise relevant to organizations’ funding priorities, and more. HRA Open is a web portal that allows researchers that are funded by HRA member organizations to create links between research outputs and their funding, and deposit research outputs in public repositories, thereby making their research openly accessible.

Key Responsibilities of the HRA Platforms Intern include:

  • Becoming familiar with the utility and logistics of HRA Analyzer and HRA Open
  • Assessing award data in HRA Analyzer to identify participating and non-participating organizations, currentness of existing award data
  • Communicating with HRA member organizations to request participation and data updates, and assisting members with questions about the data upload/update process
  • Creating educational resources (e.g., short videos, one-pagers, graphics) to assist HRA members in using and understanding the benefits of HRA Analyzer and HRA Open
  • Assist HRA staff with social media communications (i.e., LinkedIn), as needed and as time allows

Logistic Details:

  • The internship will start as soon as possible and run through December 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension upon mutual agreement of the intern and HRA staff.
  • The internship is remote and part-time (approximately 5 hours per week, variable depending on specific weekly task assignments), and is compensated at a rate of $500/month
  • As part of the internship, interns are requested to attend the in-person Fall 2025 Health Research Alliance Members Meeting (November 19-20, 2025; Alexandria, VA). All travel, lodging, and meal costs to attend the meeting will be covered by HRA.
