Shaping Science Outside the Lab: Careers in Scientific Societies and Government

  • Matt Windsor – Senior Manager of Media, Outreach & Communications at the Society for Neuroscience

    • Dr. Matt Windsor is a Senior Manager of Media, Outreach, and Communications at the Society for Neuroscience. Matt has over 10 years of experience working at scientific societies supporting advocacy efforts, media relations, public outreach, and publishing. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Vanderbilt University in Larry Marnett’s lab from 2011-2013. Matt obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.A. in Chemistry from Boston University.
  • Katherine Windsor – Drug Substance Team Lead, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

    • Dr. Katherine Windsor is a Senior Pharmaceutical Quality Assessor (Drug Substance Team Lead) in the Office of Pharmaceutical Quality within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) at the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Katherine has over 10 years of experience assessing chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) aspects of drugs in several therapeutic areas, particularly anti-infectives and antivirals. During the pandemic, she was on the review team for some of the first small molecule COVID-19 treatments, including remdesivir and Paxlovid. Prior to joining FDA, she conducted postdoctoral research at Vanderbilt University with Dr. Ned Porter. Katherine obtained her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame.

They will be visiting campus on Friday, October 3, and giving a talk at 4:00 PM. This event is co-sponsored with the Vanderbilt Brain Institute.
