Boosting knowledge: Sharing the science behind vaccines

A NEW free training opportunity from SciLine, based at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

Thursday, October 9, 2-3 P.M. ET – NEW COURSE

Vaccines are a constant topic of public conversation for seasonal, political, and scientific reasons. At the same time, scientists are losing their jobs, research funding is being cut, and interest groups are pouring millions of dollars into strategic disinformation campaigns about vaccines.

Putting all of that together can make it feel both critical and like an absolute minefield to speak publicly about vaccines as an expert.

In 45-minutes of presentation and 15-minutes of Q&A, this webinar, informed by research on vaccine and risk communication and intended for vaccine researchers and clinicians interested in speaking with the public about vaccines, will cover:

  • Developing messages in preparation for speaking about vaccines;
  • Best practices for addressing mis- and disinformation about vaccines;
  • Strategies to keep the conversation on track and answer tough questions; and
  • How to navigate the risks involved with speaking publicly about vaccines.

SciLine is an editorially independent, nonpartisan service for journalists and scientists based at the nonprofit American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). SciLine helps connect reporters quickly to scientific experts and validated evidence, and works with scientists to amplify their expertise and help them give voice to the facts.
