Resubmission (if needed) and Next Steps

Posted by on Friday, October 24, 2025 in Announcements, Path to Career Resources .

Not all fellowship applications are funded on the first try, but many successful fellows are awarded after resubmission!

If you plan to resubmit your application, consider the following:

  1. Read your summary statement carefully. The reviewer comments highlight strengths and weaknesses, so look for common themes across reviewers. These will be important to address in your resubmission.
  2. Discuss your feedback with your sponsor to help you interpret the comments and decide which changes are most critical.
  3. You may also wish to contact your Program Officer for them to provide perspective on your review and advise whether a resubmission is encouraged.
  4. Revise strategically by addressing each reviewer’s concern clearly. Highlight these improvements in your Introduction to Resubmission document. Also, work to strengthen weaker sections as needed.
  5. Determine the timing of your next resubmission. Be sure to allow yourself time to make revisions.
  6. Resubmissions require new Reference Letters. Build in time to ask your letter writers for new, updated Reference Letters.
  7. If your application score is low and has no chance of being funded, and you intend to resubmit, you can begin revising your application as soon as you have reviewer comments. Note, however, that you cannot complete your application until after you receive an official funding decision because you cannot have duplicate or overlapping applications under review at the same time.
