Quantifying your Resume
A simple trick that can greatly improve your resume is to add quantifications. What do we mean by that? Try adding numbers and details to add depth, impact, and credibility to your resume. To do this, write out a list of your career accomplishments. Then, fill in the blanks. Ask how many, how much, how long, how often?
For example:
- Instead of saying: Trained and mentored undergraduate students.
- You say: Trained and mentored 3 undergraduate research students who are now in graduate school pursuing PhDs in STEM-related fields.
- Instead of saying: Presented research findings at conferences.
- You say: Presented oral and poster presentations at 6 national and international conferences, which led to 2 collaborative projects.
- Instead of saying: Established research collaborations.
- You say: Established research collaborations and secured $25,000 to fund the work.
