In light of the university’s decision to cancel classes this week and move to on-line interactions next week, the Writing Studio will not being holding in-person consultations or in-person office hours at our satellite locations. We will, however, offer consultations via our online platform.

To make an on-line appointment with the Writing Studio during this time, please follow the instructions below:

1) Visit our website: www.vanderbilt.edu/writing

2) Click on “Schedule an Appointment” on the right-hand side to create an account and schedule an appointment with any available resource. Note: Students affiliated with the BRET Office who wish to meet during the regularly scheduled Light Hall hours can do so by logging onto our scheduler and making an on-line appointment with the resource listed as: *Light Hall satellite (433 Light Hall).

Information about accessing online appointments:

As you get ready for your appointment, do note that to use WCOnline’s online consultation module, you’ll need to use either the Chrome or Firefox web browser, and it is important that your browser is updated to the latest version.

Approximately five to ten minutes before the start of your appointment, log-in to the Writing Studio scheduler and click on your appointment box.

Within the pop-up window, select the red text “Start or Join Online Consultation.” This will open the online consultation module. You will be prompted to give your browser access to your camera and microphone–please do so.

Within the online consultation module, you’ll find a shared “document collaboration whiteboard” in the middle between the video display (on the left) and the chat pane (on the right). The whiteboard contains a default text explaining the features of the module including how to import or paste a document to the whiteboard. Changes made to text in this window are seen immediately by both individuals participating in the online consultation. Moreover, after your session, your chat and document will be saved in this online meetin g. You can come back by viewing your appointment and clicking the ‘start or join online consultation’ link.

We look forward to continuing to serve the Vanderbilt community during this time. We request your patience as we navigate this technology and the occasional technical difficulty with you.
