Key Role:

Work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment as a scientific or technical advisor in biomedical sciences with extensive experience conducting research in the fields of biosurveillance, biological detection, medical diagnostics, synthetic biology, device and systems engineering, microfluidics, chemistry, advanced materials, nanomaterials, infectious disease, and far forward diagnostics in support of a DoD agency. Leverage a breadth of expertise to assess technologies across a broad range of applications to work with world-class scientists to drive research efforts across a range of technology areas. Provide strategic assessments of new technologies to support the organization’s goals, create technical reports, present findings, track technological progress, develop technology program plans, and perform other related tasks required by the client. Assist with technical program management, program development, and briefing materials for government R&D efforts and deliver high-quality work products to support projects. Offer solutions and new ideas and identify opportunities to grow an existing business or support firm-wide initiatives. Interact regularly with clients and present work products to clients. Prioritize deliverables and work independently with little guidance. This position is located in Arlington, VA.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience with research in chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, or chemical biology, including time as a graduate student
• 5+ years of experience with authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to display multiple first-author or corresponding-author contributions to peer-reviewed papers or patents
• Ability to explain and present complex scientific concepts to a broad audience
• Ability to commute to Arlington, VA
• Ability to obtain a security clearance
• Doctorate degree in engineering, life sciences, or physical sciences

Additional Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience with postdoctoral academic or industrial research
• Experience in reaching out and communicating with DARPA, DoD, and other government personnel, digesting basic and applied biotechnology research, and applying this research to DoD capability gaps
• Experience with DoD medical missions, especially overseas
• Experience with exploring and critically evaluating scientific literature for emerging biotechnology
• Experience with science and technology policy
• Experience developing, executing, or overseeing test and evaluation (T&E) activities and coordinating networks of DoD or other government stakeholders for independent verification and validation (IV&V)
• Experience in nanotechnology, medical diagnostics, biological detection, assay development, materials science, synthetic oxygen carriers, biologically sourced materials, microfluidics, systems engineering, biophysics, protein biochemistry, RNA biology, synthetic biology, CRISPR and Cas systems, bioinformatics, computational modeling and simulations, gene editors, and differential diagnostics
• Experience in regulatory processes and procedures, including FDA submissions for drugs, biologics, or devices
• Experience conducting or managing clinical studies or trials and with animal models relevant to the study of hemorrhage, complex trauma, or traumatic brain injury
• Experience leading teams of scientists, engineers, and business and finance analysts
