Guided by a world-renowned Scientific Advisory Council that includes four Nobel
laureates and 35 members of the National Academy of Sciences, CRI has invested over
$517 million in support of research conducted by immunologists and tumor immunologists
at the world’s leading medical centers and universities and has contributed to many of the
key scientific advances that demonstrate the potential for immunotherapy to change the
face of cancer treatment. The Cancer Research Institute’s research funding supports the
entire continuum of basic discovery through early-stage clinical development of
novel cancer immunotherapies.
The Opportunity: Research Analyst, Clinical Accelerator and Venture
Fund
The role offers this high-performing individual the opportunity to work in a wellcapitalized
nonprofit organization and to lead work that will have a direct impact on the
development of potentially curative treatments for all types of cancer. The Research
Analyst will be able to collaborate with CRI’s scientific leadership as well as
pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical trial management partners, and venture capital
investors. The individual will also be able to stay on top of key immunotherapy trends
and developments in oncology.
The Research Analyst will be an integral team member of one of CRI’s flagship
programs, the Clinical Accelerator, a unique nonprofit-academia-industry collaboration
model that serves as a synergistic “incubator” for multi-center clinical trials testing
promising new cancer immunotherapy combinations in areas of high unmet medical
need. CRI partners with leading clinician/researchers, biopharmaceutical companies,
and nonprofit partners to develop new study concepts and conduct such studies. The
Clinical Accelerator team leads the entire process, including sourcing new study ideas,
business development-related activities including sourcing new drugs and study
funding, design of the clinical study and translational research plans, execution/oversite
of the clinical trial, and driving the publication strategy. The program provides
philanthropic investment and clinical resources to accelerate the clinical development of
CRI-supported clinical studies. The Clinical Accelerator team is also responsible for
leading and managing CRI’s venture investment practice, including souring new
opportunities, conducting due diligence, liaising with existing and potential investors,
and managing the CRI investment portfolio.
Working closely with the Clinical Accelerator’s leadership, the successful candidate will
be an integral part of the program’s scientific diligence efforts, including:
• Reviewing and evaluating scientific posters, publications, websites, and
confidential preclinical/clinical data from pharmaceutical and biotechnology
companies;
• Liaising with CROs, clinical teams, and company partners to review and select
novel drug combinations to be tested in CRI clinical trials;
• Monitoring and assisting in coordinating clinical trial design and
correlative research strategies of CRI clinical trials;
• Monitoring the immune-oncology drug development competitive landscape to
generate new, field-wide analyses that will help guide the evolution of CRI’s
overall program strategies;
• Updating the Clinical Accelerator’s IO landscape database and leading
publication of the update;
• Collaborating with team members and partners on the publication of additional
research in leading academic or trade journals;
• Assisting in completing ad hoc consulting assignments;
• Attending and reporting on scientific/industry conferences, i.e. ASCO, AACR, and
SITC, and medical meetings; and
• Assisting with the due diligence and evaluation on new venture investing
opportunities as well as monitoring CRI’s venture investment portfolio.
Professional Experience
• An advanced technical degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in
immunology, cancer immunotherapy or relevant cancer research field is required;
• 2+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience in cancer immunology or
immuno-oncology is highly preferred;
• An advanced, deep, and current understanding of the basic and clinical science
of cancer immunology, exemplified by outstanding publications;
• Strong analytical skills, e.g., excellence in self-guided research, proficiency in
statistics, skillful in Excel, PowerPoint, and other equivalent data analytical tools
or software;
• Experience with data science (e.g., Python, R, SQL, or equivalent) is highly
desired;
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively either in a team or
independently;
• A high degree of proven written and verbal communication skills; and
• Must be comfortable in a hands-on, self-guided, and self-started work
environment:
o Must be able to work effectively with timelines and high workloads (time
management), and have a level of sophistication that would be typical
of research analyst/healthcare consulting roles in for-profit companies in
healthcare industry;
o Previous exposure to clinical drug development, clinical studies and
regulatory affairs is a plus but not required; and
o Previous exposure to life science diligence, investments and intellectual
property is a plus, but not required.

Compensation
Cancer Research Institute is prepared to offer the successful candidate a competitive
compensation package that includes a base salary of between $95,000 – $115,000,
comprehensive health insurance, generous retirement benefits, and potential for
performance-based bonuses, similar to those of for-profit organizations.
Work Location
Current work policy requires staff to be in the office in lower Manhattan every
Wednesday and ability to work remotely Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
