Launching Your Lab Vision: Writing the Research Statement

Writing your research statement is a critical component of the faculty application process. Not only does it give hiring committees insight into your scientific vision and independence, but it also gives you the opportunity to think strategically and clearly about your future research laboratory.
Join us for a two-part Faculty Research Statement Workshop designed to help you understand and develop your research statement.
Part 1: Overview of Writing a Faculty Research Statement
Led by Dr. A.J. Hinton (Assistant Professor, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics), this session will break down the structure, expectations, and purpose of a strong research statement. Whether you’re a late-stage graduate student or a postdoc exploring the faculty track, this session will provide foundational guidance, example statements, and evaluation rubrics to help you get started.
Wednesday, August 27th
1:00-2:30 p.m.

Part 2: Bring your Research Statement to Get Live Feedback
This interactive session is tailored for those currently preparing or polishing their research statements. Please bring a working draft. Dr. Hinton and your peers will provide constructive, real-time feedback, and there will be time for Q&A to address specific questions or concerns.
