Congressional Internship with the office of U.S. Rep Jim Cooper (TN-05)
Want to gain valuable work experience and learn about important issues facing the world, our country, our state, and our local communities? Check out U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper's (TN-05) intern program for opportunities available in the Nashville and Washington, DC offices.
Internships are highly competitive. The majority of those selected are from Middle Tennessee, but in order to create a more vibrant environment for discussion and debate, we also accept students from all over the state, the U.S., and occasionally from abroad. The Cooper internship is well-known, unique, and has a large class, usually between 8-12 students per summer session at each office. Work is rigorous, but fun, and includes daily reading and writing assignments, as well as weekly personal interaction with Jim. Applicants are chosen based on academic performance and writing samples. We do not ask applicants for their political affiliation. We strive to develop good citizens and leaders of all political persuasions.
Who is Eligible?
Individuals, regardless of nationality, who are currently enrolled in or have graduated from a two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school.
How do I apply?
Submit a completed application along with a cover letter, resume, and two letters of recommendation by the deadline to the intern coordinators. You may find the application below.
Are internships paid?
Internships are unpaid. Starting in 2018, we have a limited number of paid fellowship opportunities for the summer sessions. Fellowships are need-based, and applicants must write a one-to-two page essay on why the fellowship is so important to them.
