TWISTER Internship 2017: The Adventure Science Center (ASC) is an independent, not-for-profit educational institution that ignites curiosity and inspires the lifelong discovery of science. TWISTER (Tennessee Women in Science, Technology, Engineering & Research) is a daylong professional conference for high school girls, presented by women working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Research) professions. Adventure Science Center’s Education Department seeks an intern to assist with planning and coordinating the TWISTER 2018 conference event. The TWISTER Intern will sit on the TWISTER planning committee and play an integral role in presenter and volunteer acquisition, session planning, and data analysis.

Insight Genetics is dedicated to improving the lives of cancer patients through the design, development, and deployment of molecular diagnostic assays. Insight Genetics is seeking candidates for an internship in the Quality & Regulatory Affairs Department. The internship will focus primarily on assisting with the effective implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) processes, including the assessment of process within the laboratory.  Individuals will gain exposure to QMS processes and a variety of laboratory procedures and techniques within the Insight Genetics laboratory

ASPIRE Internship: Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance 2018 World TSC Conference Program Coordinator

The TS Alliance is seeking an intern volunteer to help in the planning of the 2018 World TSC Conference, which will take place in Dallas, TX, July 26-29, 2018.  This three-day educational event will be held in partnership with TSC International (TSCi) and will bring together approximately 800 attendees including speakers, physicians, staff, and TSC individuals and families. There will be four tracks including; pediatrics, transition age, adults, and specialty. The intern will also assist the Director of Clinical Projects and TSC Clinic Liaison in the collection of buccal cells from attendees with TSC who consent to participate in the TS Alliance TSC Biosample Repository and Natural History Database Projects. 

ASPIRE Module: Networking Pacing Module, Fall 2017

The ASPIRE Networking Pacing Module is a series designed to prepare attendees to incorporate networking into their everyday activities and prepare them to network at an upcoming conference. Will you be attending SFN, American Heart, American Society of Cell Biology Conference this fall?  Let's work together to better prepare for these networking opportunities!  Sessions will break down the process of networking into approachable steps, provide real-world examples, and peer feedback.  The module will cover networking basics, etiquette, elevator pitches, navigating conversations, event preparation, identification of key individuals, and follow-up.  The module will culminate in a real-world exercise in networking - group attendance at the annual Life Science Tennessee conference, LST|CON, on November 9, 2017 in Nashville. 

ASPIRE Module Fall 2017: Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR)

The online Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR) is a course to train participants on how to effectively conduct clinical research. The course focuses on the spectrum of clinical research and the research process by highlighting epidemiologic methods, study design, protocol preparation, patient monitoring, quality assurance, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issues. 

ASPIRE Module Fall 2017: Practical Strategies for Strong Writing

In this module, experts from the Vanderbilt Writing Studio will teach scientists to become more effective writers. Sessions will focus on understanding reader expectations, foundational principles of argumentative structure, and writing cohesive paragraphs and sentences. Participants will write or edit an abstract of their own as an exercise. The practical strategies taught in this module can be applied to all types of documents, from grant applications to peer-reviewed manuscripts. Attendance is limited to 24 participants who can attend both sessions.
