Hello! My name is Simone, and I am in training to become a physician-scientist! Here at Vanderbilt, students can choose to enter the Medical Scientist Training Program, where we earn both an MD and a PhD. I’m currently in the PhD portion of my studies after completing the first two years of the MD. Physician scientists often both practice clinical medicine and research to inform how we treat, diagnose, and address diseases and issues in medicine, and I can’t wait to do both! In such a long program, it’s important to choose a place where you feel like you belong. Vanderbilt is unique among all of the schools where I interviewed in that it has an amazing sense of family. Vandy is an amazingly tight-knit community, not only among students, but among faculty and staff who genuinely care for us and our success and wellness. I’ve been a leader in Batson College, one of our four colleges where students connect and share in the medical school experience across “generations.” I can’t wait to tell you more about research and wellness here at VUSM!
Fun fact about me: If I were a superhero, I’d definitely have X-Ray vision. Can you imagine? I’d be the best orthopedic resident out there!
