Best Buddies Vandy Med
Best Buddies Vandy Med is part of an international organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through one-to-one friendships and advocacy. At VUSM, we match our medical students with adults in the community with IDD. In addition to supporting these friendships, we host monthly chapter-wide events that allow our buddies to socialize in a large group setting, while providing respite for their families. Recent chapter-wide events include our annual Halloween Party – complete with a costume contest, watching Vandy baseball games, and attending the Best Buddies Prom at Bridgestone Arena. We are committed to enhancing the lives of our buddies through meaningful friendships, while recognizing them for their unique abilities. These important experiences have provided medical students with a unique perspective into intellectual disabilities, which will certainly inform their ability to care for these patients in the future!
