Physicians for Human Rights

Posted by on Monday, January 16, 2017 in Student Activities .

VUSM’s Physicians for Human Rights club is a student chapter of the international PHR organization, that "uses medicine and science to document and call attention to mass atrocities and severe human rights violations.” As a student organization, we’re striving to create a community for passionate, engaged students to engage these challenging issues and think about how we can address them in our careers. We hope to promote awareness and allow for open discussion of topics ranging from water contamination in Flint to emergent care in terrorist attacks, and from homelessness in Nashville to sex trafficking and reproductive health. We hope that our club can enrich students’ understanding of their social obligations as physicians to care for the poor and disenfranchised, both locally and globally. To achieve this goal, we sponsor a variety of events, including monthly journal clubs and and trips to local organizations in Nashville caring for our neighbors.

We hope you’ll join us to advance our social mission as physicians!
