POCUS
Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) or bedside ultrasound is a rapidly expanding technique by which physicians in diverse medical specialties are improving outcomes and expedience of care while reducing radiation exposure and cost. Ultrasound is a skill-set that can be used by any physician to broaden his/her bedside diagnostic acuity and procedural skills. Whether evaluating acute injury, tracking chronic conditions, or undertaking invasive procedures under visual guidance, POCUS is a crucial skill-set for the modern physician. Currently, point-of-care ultrasound is infrequently and informally taught at the undergraduate medical level. Through this organization, we aim to provide VUSM students with the opportunity to develop this skill-set via directed training, resources for independent study, and opportunities for leadership in interdisciplinary point-of-care ultrasound in a manner accessible to undergraduate medical trainees of all levels.
