Vanderbilt’s Society of Saints Cosmas and Damian was joined by Sister Mary Diana Dreger, MD, OP, to discuss Catholic Social Doctrine and how it relates to our work as physicians. We explored the four fundamental tenants of Catholic Social Doctrine – dignity of the human person, the common good, subsidiarity, and solidarity – and discussed where in medicine we see these principles in action, as well as where we fail to see them. Sister Mary Diana shared insight from her work as a physician for the underserved in South Nashville, where she lived out Catholic Social Doctrine daily.
