Vanderbilt Chapter of AMA-TMA Hosts Pizza and Politics
In February, the Vanderbilt Medical School chapter of the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) hosted an event for those interested in learning more about the current political landscape in Nashville. In addition to the unprecedented opportunity to speak with three state legislators, a TMA grassroots manager highlighted goals for this current session so that students could learn more about issues for which Tennessee physicians advocate. Representative Jason Powell (53rd district), Harold M. Love, (58th district), and John Ray Clemmons (55th district, which includes Vanderbilt) discussed their current platforms with a focus on health. They also answered questions from students on the Graduate Physician Act, Metro General closing, and other important issues. This event was in preparation for TMA’s Day on the Hill in which physicians and medical students collaborate to advocate for patient-centered healthcare policy.
