VMS Knits

VMS Knits for (k)Nashville is an organization where medical students can express their creativity and improve mental well-being through knitting and crocheting projects for charity. Over the last two years we have donated numerous winter hats, headbands, and mittens to patients at Shade Tree Clinic, our student-run free clinic for the underserved in Nashville.

Our weekly meetings are fun and low-key, providing an opportunity to learn basic or advanced techniques, and serving as an outlet for alleviating the stresses of school and rotations. We also host social events, which consist of knitting, movies, and great snacks in a relaxing off-campus location (including our Dean’s house!).

We welcome participants of all skill levels; from beginners who have never handled knitting needles to experts who have mastered complicated projects. Our members and leaders are always happy to teach and assist with learning new techniques. We also provide all supplies, so all you need to bring is an open mind and a little bit of creativity!

We hope you will come and join us if you choose to attend Vanderbilt! Sure, medical school is stressful, but Vanderbilt has a variety of activities that promote student wellness, and why not do so while creating projects for a good cause?
