Anthony Ferranti

Graduate Student, Niswender Laboratory

I grew up in Concord, MA and completed my Bachelor of Science in psychology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the spring of 2020. During my undergraduate, I became passionate about pharmacology and neuroscience research with a motivation to create more effective treatment solutions for those suffering from psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. My current research is focused on discovering novel treatments with reduced side effects for ADHD and Rett syndrome by selectively targeting subtypes of metabotropic glutamate receptors with small molecule allosteric modulators. I aim to take a translational approach to my thesis project by collaborating with clinicians at Vanderbilt, using patient data to identify new targets for these disorders, and improving the translational efficacy of our preclinical models. I live in a shared house in East Nashville with two friends and recently adopted two kittens before starting the IGP program. In my free time I like to play hockey and golf as well as travel and explore new places around Nashville with friends.
