Christopher J. Hansen

Graduate Student, Herington Lab
BA/BS, Belmont University (2019)

I was born and raised in South Florida near Fort Lauderdale. I moved to Nashville in 2015 to attend Belmont University where I received my degrees in Chemistry and French. Following graduation, I worked as a research assistant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Herington, I helped ameliorate drug solvation in ex vivo organ bath assays using emulsion and co-solvation methods. In the Herington lab we strive to develop novel tocolytics, drugs that manage pre-term labor. My graduate studies focus on the development of drug delivery systems in an effort to eliminate off-target toxicity and transplacental movement of small molecules with known tocolytic efficacy. The overall goal of my work is to formulate particles capable of efficaciously targeting uterine-specific surface receptors while incapable of transplacental passage into the fetal compartment. In my free time, I enjoy visiting vineyards, hiking, traveling, and finding local coffeehouses and restaurants.
