Position Title: Senior Science Policy Analyst

Reports to: Director of Science Policy

Department: Science Policy & Government Affairs

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Contribute to the development and successful execution of activities in support of AACR’s national policy activities and priorities.
Provide real-time information, analysis, and oversight on a variety of science and health policy issues with a focus on comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered research, and personalized medicine.
Monitor, analyze, and assess federal regulations, legislation, and other government activities as they pertain to priority policy issues.
Support committee activities, including coordinating meetings, providing background materials, and executing action plans.
Draft issue briefs, policy statements, white papers, talking points, and other documents.
Contribute to the AACR policy newsletter to inform AACR members, cancer organizations, and the general public about relevant policy issues.
Help shape special sessions and briefings to educate Members of Congress and their staffs about important pending legislation and issues affecting cancer research.
Attend and report on relevant scientific and science policy meetings and conferences.
Provide support to the Director of Science Policy on a wide array of policy initiatives and assignments.
Perform the essential functions of the position and other related duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Ph.D., M.D., or other doctoral degree in a science-related field required.
One to three years of relevant experience in a public policy environment and general knowledge of federal policy process.
Knowledge of cancer and cancer-related biomedical research preferred; familiarity with clinical and translational cancer research issues including comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered research, and personalized medicine a plus.
Superb written and oral communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate to scientific and lay audiences.
A demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, build evidence-based arguments for policy proposals, and bring conflicting points of view to consensus.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
High degree of judgment, discretion, and tact.
A self-starter with creativity, initiative and demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
Ability to function productively when unsupervised and as part of team
Ability to multi-task and work under rapidly developing deadlines and priorities.
PC, word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheet, and database programs.
