Five online sessions from April 15-April 29 (5pm CST) covering best practices and effective tools to develop breakthrough and innovative products for researchers and graduate students. Led by the National Council of Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer

Course Description:

This course will expose SBIR researchers and graduate students to technology transfer and technology commercialization best practices that are utilized to develop breakthrough innovative products. The main focus is to provide technology readiness and technology transfer/commercialization tools and metrics to effectively execute the end-to-end product delivery process. A key technology commercialization tool, for achieving best-in-class quality, schedule, cost and creating customer value, is the Time to Market (TTM) process. Effective TTM metrics management, TTM execution and TTM best-in-class case studies will be presented. The course is arranged into two key technology commercialization categories: market attack planning and technology readiness/staging for transfer or commercialization.

  • Integrated New Product Development Delivery Process – The TTM Process
  • Market, product strategy, vision for commercializing disruptive technologies – Elements of the Market Attack Plan (MAP)
  • Technology capability demonstration, technology maturity and technology commercialization best practices – Technology Readiness Criteria
  • Technology transfer best practices for extending the R&D partnerships enterprise and IP strategies to protect the business case – Developing Partnership
  • Technology transfer and technology commercialization case studies – Commercialization Examples Best Practices

Instructor Bio:
 ARTHUR M. GOORAY, PhD

Art Gooray is an experienced Engineering Executive bringing a broad set of practical technology transfer, technology commercialization, business planning and organizational learning skills to leadership roles. For over 30 years, through the use of engineering excellence best practices, he has successfully executed strategic technology transfer and technology commercialization for large companies and universities. Art Gooray is currently a Product Development Manager at Eastman Kodak, Dayton OH. Prior to this, for 6 years, Art was at Eastman Kodak Co., in Rochester NY, in the consumer ink jet business division, as a Senior Research Associate. Prior to this, for 19 years, Art was at the Xerox Corporation, as a Technical Program Manager. Art’s expertise is in practical execution of technology transfer, technology readiness and technology commercialization. His key responsibilities are in developing best-in-class teams to effectively execute time to market best practices, with a focus on technology transfer, technology readiness and technology commercialization. Art has developed graduate level classes on Technology Commercialization and Innovation/Entrepreneurship best practices. He is currently teaching such classes at Wright State University, School of Engineering. Art has also been an Adjunct Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester. Art has also helped with the establishment of Technology Transfer/Product Development centers at universities. In addition, for over twenty years, Art has been the Industry Key Executive to a Historical Black College and University (HBCU), Howard University. He has also managed a pilot program to successfully transfer technology from government lab (Sandia National Lab) to industry commercialization business unit (Xerox). Additionally, he has demonstrated his entrepreneurial drive by forming an international engineering consulting company (Skanda USA, LLC) with partnerships in the USA, India and South Africa (no longer active). In addition, Art is a board member of the nation’s Global Innovation Forum Brain Thrust (http://globalinnovationforum.wordpress.com/). Art received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics and Math from Howard University in Washington DC, an MS in Engineering Physics from University of Virginia in Charlottesville and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Howard University. Art has over 20 external publications and received over 40 patents. Art has received many speaking awards at HBCU’s and received honors from HBCU’s for his innovations in developing technology transfer/commercialization and entrepreneurship knowledge centers.

DURATION: Each session is 90-minutes with 60 minutes of presentation and 30 minutes of Q&A.
