Communications Manager, Research!America

This full-time, exempt position reports to the Vice President of Communications and manages specific day-to-day communications functions, working with staff across the alliance to develop and execute a range of activities intended to raise awareness of medical and health research issues and Research!America’s mission. The ideal candidate has a blend of internal and external communications experience and a proven ability to develop and execute outcomes-based strategic communication plans. The successful candidate will manage vendors, interact and build relationships with media, policy makers, current and potential members/partners, research professionals, business leaders and others committed to advancing medical and health research.

Responsibilities include:

·         Manage proactive member communications outreach through various print and electronic vehicles.

·         Write and edit content for newsletter, publications, website and social media accounts, and other internal and external communications materials ensuring that high-quality content is produced on deadline.

·         Pursue and help coordinate executive speaking engagements; assist with the development of PowerPoint presentations, remarks and talking points; confirm audience details, materials distribution, etc.;

·         Provide communications support for Research!America events; write panel discussion summaries for media/policy audiences; assist with materials development and on-site support as needed.

·         Review and edit copy produced by other departments and member organizations for message consistency when applicable.

·         Manage appropriate use of organization’s editorial and branding guidelines.

·         Manage the work of contractors/outside vendors when applicable.

·         Assist with tracking communications results and preparing updates and reports for board of directors; assist preparation of entries for communication award programs.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

·         Minimum of five years’ experience in a communications-related environment

·         Bachelor’s degree in journalism/communications or related-field

·         Excellent writing, editing and oral communications skills, attention to detail, as well as adherence to style guides and Web usability guidelines is required.

·         Publications development experience; strong copy editing skills

·         Experience working with senior-level experts and partner organizations; ability to interact with medical and policy opinion-leaders.

·         Experience in a scientific or medical related institution, association preferred.

·         Web site content management experience

·         Proficient in social media strategies

·         Familiarity with Microsoft Office, HTML, Web content management system software, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, Word Press, Dreamweaver

·         Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task team environment.Good team-building relationship skills, time management, and deadline management.
