Job Description
Mission
The Preclinical R&D Senior Research Associate is responsible for implementing a scientific plan, and working independently in the lab with minimal supervision
Reporting Relationship
• The Senior Research Associate will report directly to the Director, Preclinical Research & Development
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Construct, characterize, and manufacture rHSV helpers for rAAV production
- Small scale production and characterization of recombinant adeno-associate viruses for preclinical animal studies
- Design, develop and qualify new assay methods
- Execute routine assays and procedures
- Assist in maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment
- Present scientific results at appropriate meetings
- Observe and comply with AGTC’s Employee manual and Safety and Quality manual
- Knowledge of laboratory safety, OSHA policies, and EPA standards
Requirements
Qualifications
- A B.S. with 8+ years experience or M.S. with 5 + years experience with a degree in biological science. Hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology, virology, or related areas.
Experience
- Advanced proficiency in basic biological laboratory techniques, including molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, ELISA, immunoblot, PCR, and transfection.
- Demonstrated strong ability for molecular cloning and troubleshooting.
- Ability to design and develop new assays (ELISA, immunoblot, activity assay, etc) for protein detection and quantification.
- Basic knowledge and techniques in small rodents, protein and/or virus purification
- Understanding/working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Language Skills
- Required to communicate clearly in English—both written and oral.
Measures of Performance
- A written, formal review will be conducted annually to evaluate the Senior Research Associates performance.
- Weekly 1:1 meetings will be conducted for monitoring of adherence to scheduled research plans, experimental design, and feedback.
