Immune Design seeks a highly motivated and creative scientist with a strong background in molecular biology and molecular virology, to join our Seattle, Washington Research Team in the development of innovative novel treatments for cancer and infectious diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for team and departmental functions as they relate to our lentiviral vector targeting platform.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for lentivector discovery, design, engineering, early development, and functional analysis of lentivector-based vaccines in vitro and in vivo, and also innovation towards next-generation vectors based on lenti or other viral platforms. The successful candidate will also be responsible for producing vector candidates for in vitro and in vivo testing. Ensure regular communication with participant scientists and critical review of their data. Experimental troubleshooting, data analysis, and presentation of research data and project updates. Provide written reports and submit patent applications when appropriate. Maintain laboratory notebook in a detailed and descriptive manner. Participate in scientific discussion with colleagues through scientific seminars and meetings. Other duties may be assigned. Preferred candidates will possess a strong publication record, extensive laboratory expertise, excellent problem solving and sound verbal and written communication skills. A robust interest and understanding of immunology and/or immune cell biology is desired.

Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Virology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline.
• A minimum 2 years post-doctoral experience in a relevant area
• Strong experience with novel vector design, optimization and experimental analysis of new vector performance in vitro and in vivo.
• Deep and broad virology background including lentivirology and virus-host cell interactions
• Strong background in molecular biology including cloning and regulation of gene expression.
• A solid track record of highly innovative research and advancing own ideas

Additional Desired Qualifications:

• Industry / biotech experience in a relevant area
• Good understanding of the human and murine immune system and immune cell biology, experience in Dendritic cell biology
• Understanding of and experience with the drug development process, preferentially for vaccines and and/or other protein drugs
• The ability to prioritize, and to develop and implement research plans that are aligned with department priorities.
• Experience in bioinformatics
• Strong presentation and writing skills.
• Commitment to maintaining high laboratory standards with regard to quality and safety. Fully-trained and will observe relevant BSL2 safety policies governing work with lentiviral vectors.
• Desire to present and publish scientific results.
• Desire to innovate, identify novel approaches, design test systems and drive multiple concurrent projects to their completion with an appropriate sense of urgency.
• Have the ability to strive in a fast-paced, creative and goal-oriented environment in order to develop next-generation therapies against cancer and other diseases.
