Build a research program that matches your vision! The Division of Intramural Research Programs (DIRP) of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institutes of Health (NIH), invites outstanding individuals to apply for tenure-track positions in areas of basic research of mental health. The NIMH DIRP currently has resources to support new applicants in neurodevelopment, neurobiology of cognition and affective neuroscience, neural circuits, synaptic function, and neuroimaging. These programs operate in one of the largest and most active neuroscience research communities in the world, which has been integrated in the Porter Neuroscience Research Center, located on the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. In addition there are active clinical programs in mental health.
Visit www.nimh.nih.gov and http://neuroscience.nih.gov/ for more information.

A successful individual will be expected to develop and direct an independent research program focused on basic biological questions relevant to mental health. Outstanding individuals interested in neurodevelopment, cognition, neuromodulation, neural circuit function, and functional neuroanatomy in animal models ranging from invertebrates to non-human primates are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates that make use of state-of-the-art techniques in neural and stem cell biology, molecular genetics, genomics/epigenomics, developmental neurobiology as well as systems and computational neuroscience to study problems relevant to mental health are also encouraged to apply. Each candidate must have earned a Ph.D. or M.D. or equivalent degree and will have demonstrated the potential to become an outstanding independent investigator. In rare cases, outstanding senior candidates will be considered for a tenured position if there is a demonstrated international reputation and well-documented evidence of ongoing independent accomplishments. An individual selected for a position is expected to build/or maintain a dynamic and productive research group, mentor and train scientists, and make use of the excellent opportunities for collaborative, translational, and high-risk/high-reward science available at the NIH. Laboratory space and startup funds, access to shared research facilities, and ongoing research support are competitive with premier academic institutions. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments and a full Civil Service package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, and a Thrift Savings Plan) is available.

To apply:
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, bibliography, statement of research interests, and three letters of reference to: Susan G. Amara, Ph.D., NIMH, c/o Travis Speck, Office of the Scientific Director, Division of Intramural Research Programs, Building 35, Room GE418, NIH, Bethesda, MD 20892 or to NIMHDIRPSEARCH@mail.nih.gov. NIMH faculty in your research area will be actively involved in the selection process.

Applications will begin to be reviewed on or about November 7, 2014, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
