The American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB), a not-for-profit, member-based professional society of plant scientists, in partnership with the National Plant Science Council (NPSC), is seeking well-qualified applicants for the newly established position of Executive Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy and other activities to drive heightened recognition and awareness of the Plant Science Decadal Vision and the ASPB. This involves strategic coordination with the NPSC leadership, as well as requires ensuring linkage among the NPSC, the ASPB, and the broader plant science community. The Executive Coordinator is anticipated to evolve into a full-time position. 

To be competitive for this position, an applicant will have attained at least an undergraduate or Master’s degree in communications, science communication, research administration, or a related discipline. Applicants should have a minimum of four years’ experience working in the field of science-focused public relations and an in-depth understanding of how research is conducted and how scientific studies are communicated. Individuals possessing an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. In addition, you should possess strong writing skills, for both technical and lay audiences; strong organizational skills, including attention to detail; and experience in volunteer committee management.

The duties and responsibilities of the Executive Coordinator are as follows:

1.     Manages communications with NPSC stakeholders.

2.     Develops and executes strategies to increase awareness of the NPSC and ASPB public affairs-related activities.

3.     Increases support within the plant science stakeholder community for the goals articulated in thePlant Science Decadal Vision (http://tinyurl.com/PSDecadalVision).

4.     Identifies and implements best practices regarding NPSC and ASPB-related national campaigns.

5.     Conducts special projects for NPSC and ASPB.

6.     Plans and coordinates conferences and other meetings associated with NPSC and the ASPB Department of Public Affairs.
