The Computational Memory Lab at the University of Pennsylvania is hiring a project manager for the RAM (Restoring Active Memory) program. The goal of the RAM program is to develop and test a wireless, implantable neural-interface medical device for human clinical use. To this end, we are developing multi-scale computational models that describe how the brain encodes memories for events and places; new analysis methods for decoding neural signals; and new brain stimulation devices to enhance the brain’s ability to encode new memories following brain injury.

The Research Project Manager will work directly with the Project Director to administer a large multi-institution project aimed to restore & enhance cognition using novel neurostimulation devices. With oversight by project director, he/she will:

  • oversee all aspects of projects, including setting deadlines and monitoring project progress across participating organizations;
  • develop clinical brain stimulation protocols and consent forms; prepare clinical and pre-clinical submissions to various regulatory bodies;
  • organize and lead team meetings; develop technical documentation for brain stimulation devices developed as part of the project for submission to regulatory bodies;
  • Participate in clinical testing of brain stimulation protocols in a hospital setting; prepare progress reports to funding agencies.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in bioengineering/biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, statistics, quantitative psychology, neuroscience or biology is required. Ph.D. is preferred
  • 3 to 6 years of research experience, ideally in a setting of high-volume data and quantitative analysis
  • Basic neuroscience background knowledge; experience with technical report preparation; experience with clinical protocol development and IRB regulatory submissions
  • Proficiency with UNIX/Linus systems
  • Proficiency with scientific/statistical computing techniques and languages (MATLAB, R, Python/SciPy0
  • Familiar with clinical and research electrophysiology systems (scalp EEG, intracranial EEG, human single unit recordings)
  • Familiar with experiment software programming
