2015 ASPIRE Module: Effective Oral Communication Methods

The ASPIRE Modules are short, non-credit bearing electives that broaden the training experiences of biomedical sciences trainees. These elective modules provide efficient exposure to topics in three theme areas: Business/Entrepreneurship, Communication, and Clinical research.The ASPIRE Modules are optional and open to any biomedical sciences PhD student or postdoctoral fellow who wishes to take them to supplement their research training. Class size may be limited, however, and will vary by module. 

Module Title: Effective Oral Communication Methods

Director: Dr. Bruce Damon, PhD, Associate Professor, Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering

Time: Wednesdays, 3-5:00pm, September 2- September 16, 2015.

Content: Techniques for effective  oral communication (pace, articulation, managing biofeedback), presenting science to non-experts, participant presentations and peer feedback, designing visual aids

Class size: No limit

Registration requirement: 1-4 sentence Interest Statement for Instructor

Syllabus

This course will provide basic instruction, practical experiences, and critical but supportive feedback in techniques for the oral presentation of scientific matter.
