Education Program Assistant, Eberly College of Science office of Outreach and Science Engagement, Penn State

The Eberly College of Science office of Outreach and Science Engagement (OSE) invites candidates to apply for the position of Education Program Associate to contribute across the full spectrum of the science outreach programs. This position reports to the Director of Outreach and Science Engagement. The successful candidate should, in collaboration, expect to: create, plan, deliver, and evaluate outreach programs; coordinate faculty, K-12 students, teachers, and community members in both small and large scale science education events; seek funding through grants and external foundations; research potential outreach partnerships; advise science faculty on the inclusion of science education and outreach broader impacts in their research proposals; collaborate on outreach initiatives with internal and external Penn State partners, including school districts, science faculty and the College of Education; represent outreach programs at pre-college or other community events; design marketing materials for science outreach programs; attend science fairs in-state and out-of-state; manage the operational on-site activities of the science programs; help maintain and improve quality, efficiency, and accuracy of service for all events and office operations; monitor budgets and keep excellent records; assist in interviewing, hiring, training, and supervision of student staff, wage, and work-study staff; oversee maintenance of records/databases to track participant registration, and monitor participant and guardian assessment and feedback; oversee the maintenance, security and disposition of confidential records and materials; other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Director.

Knowledge of computer programs including Excel, Word required. Knowledge of Microsoft Publisher and Adobe preferred. Prior work in developing or implementing science-oriented youth programs is required.

Essential requirements: an enthusiastic, creative, and innovative individual with experience in science, youth programming, and K-12 education who demonstrates dedicated commitment to customer service, outstanding interpersonal, organizational, learning and communication abilities (both verbal and written), ability to adjust to a changing schedule, particularly during intense summer programs, capability to work both independently as an effective member of a team, passion for science education, and the ability to multi-task and respond professionally in stressful situations. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree or higher in science, education, or other related field, plus additional years of work experience (or equivalence) preferred.
