Position: Scientific Program Manager

Founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation is the largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research this year and is the only breast cancer organization with an A+ rating from CharityWatch and has consistently been awarded Charity Navigator’s highest rating of 4-stars. The BCRF Scientific Program Manager (SPM) manages the scientific and administrative aspects of special grants programs and projects within the BCRF breast cancer research portfolio. Specifically, the SPM will manage BCRF’s (i) Investigator-Initiated Drug Research Program (IIDRP); (ii) Founder’s Fund for Metastasis Research; (iii) Special Programs (such as externally administered awards); and, (iv) other projects as assigned.
Primary scientific and administrative tasks include:
Investigator-Initiated Drug Research Program
• Pre-Award phase: o Issue RFP and serve as point of contact for interested applicants
o Administrative review of submitted proposals
o Conduct and administer peer review
• Award phase: o Issue award letters to approved projects
o Manage contract negotiation
o Manage communications around award announcements
• Post-Award phase: o Facilitate projects Monitor drug supply and usage
Routine interactions with grantees to ensure success (phone calls, webinars and site visits)
o Monitor and review medical conference presentations and publications
o Collect and review programmatic progress reports and financial reports
o Track no-cost award term extensions and carry-forward requests
o Manage communications on project successes
Founder’s Fund for Metastasis Research and other Special Programs
• Manage individual awards in the grant portal including, progress/ financial reporting, payment tracking and renewal proposals, as well as administrative notes on the award
• Act as primary point of contact for investigators and institution administrators
• Manage communications on project successes

The Research Department is a small, but dynamic team of individuals within BCRF that works with our Scientific Advisory Board to ensure that the BCRF Research Program and the investigators it supports are successful in achieving the Foundation’s Mission to prevent and cure breast cancer by advancing the world's most promising science. The Research Program team includes a Chief Mission Officer, Associate Director of Grants Program and Scientific Communications, Scientific Program Manager, Senior Manager Grants Administration, Financial and Grants Associate, and shared administrative support. The team works collaboratively with staff from the communications, development and finance departments towards the Foundation’s mission goals. The Scientific Program Manager reports to the Chief Mission Officer with matrix reporting to the Associate Director of Grants Program and Scientific Communications.
This job might be for you if:
You have experience in drug development research, translational research, project management and grants administration from the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, nonprofit or academic setting.
You have an advanced scientific degree in the biomedical sciences (applications from PharmD or doctorate in pharmacology are encouraged).
You have knowledge of breast cancer or cancer biology.
You have strong database use, data management and analysis skills; high level of experience in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel in particular; computer use and internet skills.
You pay attention to the details and are well organized. Anything worth doing is worth doing right, every single time, even in a multi-tasking and fast-paced environment.
You communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to multiple stakeholders, including co-workers, BCRF investigators, board members and donors.
You are motivated and driven, as demonstrated by a willingness and enthusiasm to identify and undertake new challenges that contribute to program development and/or efficiency. You will take ownership of the time you spend at BCRF towards truly making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
