Volunteer Writing Opportunity: Vanderbilt Diabetes Center

Posted by on Monday, April 25, 2016 in Uncategorized .

The Vanderbilt Diabetes Center is developing a quarterly e-newsletter that focuses on research efforts of Vanderbilt researchers. The goal of the newsletter is to inform others about the ongoing and published research at Vanderbilt (mostly interviews from authors of recently published manuscripts) along with profiling faculty and lab researchers (both newly recruited and senior).

The quarterly e-newsletter will be distributed to nearly all students, postdocs, and faculty members within the Vanderbilt diabetes research community, other diabetes research centers around the United States (e.g. Joslin Diabetes Center, Indiana University, University of Pennsylvania, etc.), and patients of the Eskind Diabetes Clinic who have signed up to receive the newsletter.

We are seeking:

  • Organized and diligent student volunteers who have a passion for writing
  • Writers who have a love for science and the ability to simplify the normally complex research that is performed in our diabetes research labs

Writers will be required to:

  • Participate on a volunteer basis
  • Research stories provided by the editor
  • Compose and format articles to be written for non-scientists
  • Assist with photography (if profiling a researcher/faculty member),
  • Generate and research original pieces related to diabetes research at Vanderbilt.

We are open to having writers draft opinion pieces about new technologies/issues that are gaining ground globally and how those may impact our research community (e.g. CRISPR/Cas9 to target MODY genes, role of temperatures in mouse rooms and how it affects metabolic activity). Ideally, we would like to have several writers on board to meet our quarterly goal, with the first publication released in the summer of 2016.

Please contact Jason Spaeth at Jason.m.spaeth@vanderbilt.edu by May 6th, 2016 if you are interested in this great opportunity to flex your writing skills and contribute to our quarterly newsletter.
