Gold Star is a medical communications company that works with small to mid-sized biotech and medical companies to deliver beautifully crafted medical communication tools. Through selective partnerships, we provide pharmaceutical clients with strategic consultancy across a broad range of oncologic areas, content development support, logistics management, and more. Our services include Medical Writing, Global Healthcare Communication, Program Management and Support, plus Training and Development. Our goal is to optimize communication platforms through full-service management of branded or disease-based programs. We strive to be a strategic partner and provide innovative healthcare communication solutions that maximize outcomes.

About the Internship:

This internship will provide hands-on experience for those interested in pursuing a career in medical writing and allow the participant to emerge with writing samples that can be used for a job application. Typical projects include disease education slide decks, medical advisory board summary reports and publication materials. Qualifying students and postdocs may also be eligible for an ASPIRE Travel Award to allow for an in-person meeting with Karen Ventii, Ph.D, Executive Director of Gold Star in Atlanta, GA.  The participant will report to Karen Ventii, Ph.D, Executive Director of Gold Star.

The participant will:

  • Support the development of all assigned projects and live meetings from a content perspective
  • Support the development of monographs, manuscripts (if assigned) or other enduring materials in line with set objectives
  • Attend teleconferences and meetings with clients and speakers (as a silent participant, where needed)
  • Support the development of content/slides in cooperation with the sponsors and faculty in a timely manner with appropriate referencing

  • Support the development of post-program executive summaries to sponsoring company 
  • Assist with the final editing of material for clinical accuracy
  • Provide regular updates to Karen Ventii, Ph.D., Exec. Dir, Medical Communications 

Internship Details:

  • Compensation: $300/month, payable via check at the end of each month after submission of invoice
  • Duration: 3 months: October 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016
  • Time Commitment: 4-5 h/week
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Will be required to submit a W9 and sign a Confidentiality/Non-disclosure Agreement with Gold Star before engagement begins

ASPIRE Internship eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be a current Vanderbilt University PhD student or a current postdoctoral fellow.
  • All PhD students must have completed all coursework for their degree prior to October 2016.
  • Biomedical PhD students must also have passed their qualifying exams before the application deadline.
  • If you are not in a department supported by the BRET office, we will also require that you complete a form guaranteeing PI approval to participate in this program.  Please contact Ashley Brady at ashley.brady@vanderbilt.edu for more information.
  • If you are an international student or postdoctoral fellow, your visa status may affect your work eligibility. Please contact Ashley Brady to discuss this further.
