Job Opportunity: Government Relations Advocacy Associate, American Institute of Physics

The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is seeking a full-time Government Relations Advocacy Associate to enable AIP and its Member Societies to inform and influence the U.S. Congress and other policy makers. The Associate will assist with coordinating and advancing legislative and policy goals and programs. Responsibilities will include: monitoring and analyzing federal science legislation and policy developments, representing AIP and Member Societies at meetings with Executive and Legislative Branch staff, and participating in science policy coalitions and task forces.  The successful candidate should be proficient at relationship and coalition building among a variety of stakeholders and should be able to communicate the benefits of scientific research to non-scientific audiences.  The Associate will also help AIP and AIP Member Societies with science policy events and activities such as Congressional visit days, including development of informational materials and scheduling meetings.    

Qualifications: 

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, public policy, political science or related field is required.  At least two (2) years’ experience working for Congress or the Executive Branch, or in government relations for an organization or association is desired. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of STEM policy issues, the public policy formulation and federal legislative processes, and strong strategic planning and thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Must have the ability to multitask and be self-directed.
