This roundtable discussion will bridge a transatlantic debate on contemporary surveillance, welcoming diverse views through an interdisciplinary discussion on the ethics and privacy concerns of modern biomedicine and genetics on Saturday March 25th, 2017. The roundtable discussion will parse the impact of global surveillance in the light of modern medical advancements from various research angles. Our conference offers an aesthetic inquiry of surveillance in German but also trans-Atlantic cultural perspectives, therefore we invite ALL interested students to submit abstracts regardless of your background!
●To participate in this round table discussion: please submit a 250-word abstract by January 20th 2017 that describes your research, interests, or background in the field. We have spots for 4-5 participants, who will briefly outline their interest in the topic, participate in the open-group discussion, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. This round table discussion will include two moderators, representing both scientific and humanities perspectives.
In the light of the complex connections between the sciences and surveillance we are particularly interested in topics including, but not limited to:
-Patient Privacy
-Security of Genetic Information
-The Rise of Biobanks
-Privacy and Research Using Electronic Health Records
-Patenting of Genetics
-New Ways of Tracking: Sequencing DNA, Microbiome Fingerprints, and Beyond
