Citizen Science, Bard College’s core course emphasizing scientific literacy, is seeking instructors for January 2018. This innovative program is designed to introduce students in their first year of college to scientific thinking through hands on experience with laboratory investigations, computer modeling, and active classroom discussions during this intensive term.  Focus will be on the creation, analysis, and interpretation of scientific evidence.  Bard is a private liberal arts college with approximately 2,000 students, located in New York’s Hudson River Valley. All hired faculty will be brought to the Bard College campus July 23- 29, 2017 for mandatory faculty training.  The Citizen Science program dates for the 2017-18 academic year are Sunday, January 7th – Wednesday, January 24th, 2018. Faculty will be required to arrive to campus by 11 AM, Friday January 5th, 2018. Travel, food and dormitory housing will be provided for both the July and January sessions, and faculty will receive a stipend payable at the end of the January session.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in the sciences and be willing to engage students of all disciplines in a common educational experience. No specific biology training is required.  Prior teaching experience is not a requirement, although candidates with evidence of training in or experience with the application of best practices in undergraduate STEM education will be given special consideration.
