Youth Outreach Specialist – Job #76003
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University is seeking a Youth Outreach Specialist to perform administrative and operational duties in support of Bay Area Headspace pilot sites based within the department’s Community Partnerships Team and affiliated Center for Youth Mental Health & Well-being. Headspace is a critical first step toward developing a national youth model for public mental health. It is an initiative which seeks to provide early intervention services for individuals ages 12-25 as well as increase access to mental health support and provide youth and adolescents a comfortable space with wraparound services including school support and web-based connectivity.
The Youth Outreach Specialist will contribute to the development of the local youth advisory board and overall youth outreach strategy for both Bay Area Headspace pilot sites. The Youth Outreach Specialist will need to be able to form partnerships with youth servicing agencies within Santa Clara County in order to understand the youth demographic and ensure its diversity is appropriately reflected on the advisory board and in the marketing strategy; collaboratively develop a peer support component to service delivery and establish a pipeline for continued youth involvement at an advisory level.
The Youth Outreach Specialist will be involved in the development of the initial messaging and marketing campaign for Bay Area Headspace to include naming, branding, marketing strategies and a social media plan. The Youth Outreach Specialist will work with the youth advisory board and pilot implementation team to incorporate focus group results into development of the Headspace center “look and feel” and all marketing, outreach and peer support strategies. In addition, it would be expected that the Youth Outreach Specialist contribute to and help implement innovative best practice initiatives based on the needs of young people in relation to mental health issues.
Duties include:
- Assist in designing experiments, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high level assignments, including activities such as defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information, or planned and coordinating experimental protocols.
- Adapt or work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures, with the supervisor providing only general guidance and suggestions.
- Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques.
- Solve problems, and make decisions which affect the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to the overall project.
- Select and apply standard calculations and formulas independently to compile data or process documents; often serve as a resource for research methods and numerical analyses.
- Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.
- Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.
- Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work.

This manager administers and supports Stanford Bio-X education and fellowship programs under minimal supervision. Manage administrative aspects of academic programs, including graduate fellowships and undergraduate application solicitation, graduate and fellowship selection, appointment process, student stipend and tuition financial accounting, symposia and other events.
Core duties:
- Lead the planning and operations for functions or programs that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
- Evaluate programs, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.

- Manage and contribute to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.
- May development and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
- Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
- May direct and/or supervise staff.
