Job Opportunity: Associate Department Director – Office of Immersion Resources, Vanderbilt University

Immersion Vanderbilt calls for each undergraduate student to participate in an intensive learning experience that takes place in and beyond the classroom and culminates in the creation of a tangible final project. The new Office of Immersion Resources will coordinate efforts across campus, functioning to provide central support and coordination so that students and faculty have the resources they need. 

The Office of Immersion Resources is seeking a highly organized, strategic-minded individual to develop and implement the resource support for the Immersion Vanderbilt initiative. Reporting to the Faculty Director for Immersion and leading a team of resource advisors, the Associate Director will play a central role in Immersion Vanderbilt’s administration. This position will collaborate closely with faculty, colleges/schools, staff, campus partner offices and programs across the university to develop a network of resources.

  • Work closely with the Faculty Director of Immersion Vanderbilt and lead the day-to-day operations of the Office of Immersion Resources. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Vanderbilt’s colleges/schools, faculty, staff, and other university departments.
  • Manage the Office of Immersion Resources’ staff, including resource advisors, program assistant, and other staff as needed.
  • Develop, promote, and deliver relevant programming.
  • Advise undergraduate students on Immersion resources.
  • Research and implement best practices in experiential learning resource management.
  • Provide strategic planning, along with the Faculty Director, for the Immersion Vanderbilt initiative.
  • Collaborate with campus partners through committees and regular meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

Typically, a competitive candidate will possess a PhD or terminal degree (J.D., Ed.D.) and have 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in an academic setting.  People management experience is desired.

Is industrious as well as efficient. Can juggle multiple competing priorities simultaneously. 

Self-managing; self-motivated. Manages time, activities and outcomes well so that progress stays on track. 

Values teamwork and co-workers; make them feel valuable and important by acknowledging what they do. Doesn’t expect from others effort that one is unwilling to do themselves. Find ways to complement other’s strong suits.

Ability to read cues and adapt accordingly. Ability to adjust style and approach to accommodate the styles and needs of others. Can anticipate and effectively de-escalate potential conflicts.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong project management skills.
