Join our team of data scientists who are committed to innovating scientific solutions for patients in pain and patients who consume opioid medication. axialHealthcare’s Data Scientists are fervent collaborators committed to accuracy, knowledge, and creating value for our clients. We have 2-5 openings for Data Scientists to join our research and development team in Nashville, TN. The positions can be senior level depending upon experience and will be assigned to projects within one of our three product suites (axialPATIENT, axialPRACTICE, axialNETWORK). As a member of the data science team, you will be responsible for the ideation, research, predictive modeling, and machine learning algorithms for data products to deliver value to our clients and the business. The role of the data scientist is to use mathematics, statistics, programming, and visualization to discover, in partnership with the product team, insights that drive value for our clients and improve health of patients in pain.
The data scientist must thrive in a fast-paced environment. Must be comfortable and capable of clearly communicating the nature and results of complex analytics to a non-technical audience. Must be comfortable with ‘data wrangling’ and delivering high-level summary statistics and trends to the business. Must possess basic programming skills in R and/or Python, SQL, and Unix command-line tools. Knowledge of databases, data warehousing, Big Data tools and environments, Apache Spark, and AWS cloud services platform is a plus..

Required Qualifications:
- Ability to easily and effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, especially business, product, and data/engineering deployment teams
- Capacity to provide thought leadership
- Proficient in employing the scientific method to solve complex problems and use critical thinking
- Adept at defining research questions, planning, and conducting research studies
- Knowledge of regression and classification techniques
- Ability to ensure accuracy & integrity of output through data analysis and reproducible reporting
- Skilled at writing and maintaining clear documentation
- Ability to extract and transform data from primary sources
- Competence in developing, reviewing, refining, and enhancing descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics
- Ability to develop data products including visualizations for internal customers
- Proficiency at drawing appropriate conclusions from analysis and communicating those conclusions clearly and concisely
- Skilled at performing systematic medical and scientific literature reviews, including opioid epidemiology, pain management, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and behavior modification
- Driven to publish to promote
- Ability to perform peer code and documentation review
- Ability to continuously improve and monitor current product lines and research artifacts
- Skilled in solving ambiguous requests
- Adeptness in clearly communicating complex results to non-technical users (data storytelling)
- Adeptness to learn new assignments, technologies, and applications quickly and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
- Must possess the personal skills to work well with other teams to implement agile solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge of health care industry products/services and operations
- Experience with claims data, including ICD9 and 10, HCPCS, and other logical coding and grouping used by CMS
- Experience conducting data analysis in healthcare settings; including large scale EHR and claims data sets
- Experience with large data sets and/or the analysis of unstructured healthcare data
- Track record of innovation in the field of healthcare analytics and/or peer-reviewed publications and relevant technical conference participation
Required Education:
- Master’s degree in a discipline relevant to application of data and rigorous statistical analysis, especially statistics, computer science, engineering, basic or biomedical sciences
Preferred Education:
- PhD preferred, or 5-7 years of directly related experience in data analytics and business intelligence
