Job description

The Scientific Program Officer is a motivated early-career scientist seeking to accelerate the translation of research into therapies for patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. As part of a venture philanthropy that funds academic and biotechnology programs, this role will be integral in supporting the management of ADDF's research portfolio and strategic partnerships with industry, investors, and other funding agencies. The Scientific Program Officer will proactively support applicants and ADDF-funded researchers by connecting them with resources to develop and support their programs from concept to commercialization. The Scientific Program Officer will report directly to the Director, Scientific Affairs and will be overseen by ADDF's Founding Executive Director and Chief Science Officer. The position is located in midtown Manhattan, New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Support all aspects of the scientific review process by identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing the most promising therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias
  • Provide strategic guidance to applicants and funded investigators in developing scientific work plans, fostering connections with collaborators and consultants, and finding qualified academic and contract research organizations (CROs)
  • Monitor funded program progress by ensuring projects meet established timelines and milestones and closely working with investigators to troubleshoot any issues
  • Assist in managing ADDF initiatives, including the ADDF ACCESS program, which connects researchers with qualified CROs specializing in CNS diseases
  • Collaborate with experts in the field to develop educational content on CNS drug discovery, clinical studies, and commercialization
  • Develop scientific agendas for ADDF conferences and coordinate strategic advisory panels that address challenges or opportunities in Alzheimer’s drug development
  • Write peer-reviewed scientific publications

Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant biomedical discipline
  • Research experience in neuroscience, neurology, or a related field. General knowledge of drug discovery and development for CNS diseases desired. Translational or clinical research experience is a plus
  • Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage competing requests
  • Excellent oral communications and writing skills with demonstrated ability to communicate to both scientific and lay audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with key opinion leaders, partner organizations, donors, and staff
