Position Summary

The Director of Development manages a comprehensive fundraising program for the Office of Diversity and Engagement and its Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program. Develops and implements a comprehensive strategic plan for single and multi-year resource development. Conceives, creates, develops, implements and manages fundraising programs and strategies to successfully meet predetermined goals and objectives, and ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met. Oversees and manages donor identification and cultivation.

Job Duties

  • Manages a comprehensive fundraising program for the Office of Diversity and Engagement and its Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program. Develops and implements a comprehensive strategic plan for a singe and multi-year resource development. Conceives, creates, develops, implements and manages fundraising programs and strategies to successfully meet predetermined goals and objectives, and ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met. Oversees and manages donor identification and cultivation.
  • Manages a fundraising staff comprised of corporate partnership liaisons, proposal writers, marketing and communication professionals, and associated administrative staff. Selects, trains, mentors, guides, directs and coaches subordinate staff in support of goals.
  • Manages other external relations functions, including program marketing and communications, donor advisory committees, alumni groups, corporate and industry volunteers, and corporate internship programs.
  • Other duties as assigned 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, including strategies for donor identification, cultivation and solicitation.
  • Strong strategic planning skills and skills to conceive, design, implement, evaluate and manage fundraising programs and strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of the organization, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure, and current issues of concern.
  • Strong knowledge of management/leadership concepts, principles and best practices.
  • Strong leadership/management skills to select, train, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communications skills and political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
  • Strong skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
  • Knowledge of, experience with, and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in public education and to the needs of underrepresented, low-income and first-generation students and their families.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills.Strong skills in persuasion/negotiation and strong marketing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera.
