Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute supports interdisciplinary neuroscience research and discovery by scientists and scholars across the university and promises to be the most comprehensive institute for brain science.

The Zuckerman Institute seeks a Curriculum Design Specialist to design a neuroscience curriculum for high school learners. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Education Programs, the Specialist is responsible for synthesizing and expanding upon existing education resources of the Zuckerman Institute and BioBus, Inc., as well as the specialized neuroscience areas of the researchers at the Zuckerman Institute.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Aid in the recruitment and solicitation of feedback from practicing teachers and subject matter experts to create a set of novel, inquiry-driven lessons that, taken together, convey foundational principles of neuroscience.
  • Partners with members of BioBus, Inc. to create explicit ties to BioBus programming in the mobile and permanent lab spaces.
  • Following an iterative creative and piloting phase, manages the design and digitization of the lessons for online distribution.
  • Performs additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned. 

 
Minimum Qualifications for Grade

A master degree in education, instructional design, neuroscience, or related fields is required. Advanced degree preferred. At least four (4) years of teaching experience in middle/high school grades, preferably in the life sciences is required. Must be available for weekly meetings during regular business hours (9 AM to 5 PM). Demonstrated success in coordinating curriculum design is necessary.

The ideal candidate must possess strong organizational skills, project management and independent judgement, creative approaches to novel problems. The individual must be able to coordinate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders. The successful candidate must be proactive and engaging, flexible in nature, possess sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization. Must have a commitment to exceptional quality. 

 
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree preferred. Existing knowledge of neuroscience preferred.
