NashBio’s business harnesses a unique genetic database linked to de-identified electronic medical records (EMRs) with years of longitudinal clinical data. The dataset is the largest and highest quality of its kind, providing an unprecedented opportunity to glean valuable clinical & genomic insights to accelerate the discovery & development of new drugs & diagnostics. The business consults for a wide range of biopharma and diagnostics companies, resulting in accelerated and more productive R&D. Additionally, additional new biotech spinout ventures will be formed from the proprietary R&D conducted using this dataset.
Position:
NashBio is seeking business-minded bioinformatics /data scientists to join a growing team of fast-paced and forward-thinking innovators. Interested candidates are motivated self-starters who would thrive in the rapidly changing and challenging environment of a startup. In this role, you will work closely with senior leadership as the primary bioinformatics expert within the company. You will work hand in hand with our computational, basic science and clinical teams and have a critical role advising our clients on the design, analysis and interpretation of complex genomics and clinical data sets. Examples include the identification and genomic analysis of a particular disease population of interest or developing new methods to identify and characterize disease and drug mechanisms statistically associated with a particular drug target. Central to this work will be an ability to think in a logical, structured fashion, work effectively in a highly collaborative environment and effectively communicate technical findings to the rest of the team and NashBio’s clients.
Responsibilities:
– Design, process and analyze genomic and Electronic Health Record-based phenomic data derived from our proprietary datasets, including the development and implementation of new analysis methods
– Apply statistical & knowledge-based approaches to process & clean very large data sets
– Develop and apply software packages, open source applications, and statistical tools to provide custom data analysis solutions in a timely manner for external clients and internal projects
– Communicate these analytic methods and findings by synthesizing results into clear, comprehensive deliverables to our clients
– Support ongoing business development activity
– Work collaboratively with relevant external experts and client contacts, as well as scientific advisers at Vanderbilt University & Medical Center
Qualifications:
– Ph.D. in Statistics or Bio-stats, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Computational Biology
– Demonstrated expertise in genotyping array and next generation sequencing study design, quality control, data analysis and visualization
– Experience in algorithm development, particularly using large multi-modal datasets
– Proficiency in statistics, including multivariate statistical analysis methods, general linear models and multi-omic data
– Familiarity with the Unix or Linux operating system, database design and SQL
– Coding experience in two or more high-level scripting/programming languages including R, Perl, Python, or Java
– Experience with genomic analysis tools (e.g., plink, annovar, principal components software)
– Clinical experience/expertise is a plus
– Understanding of EHR data and physician coding and diagnosis habits is a plus
– Authorized to work in the US

Compensation: Commensurate with experience & competitive with other positions in the field.
