Associate Director, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, University of Illinois at Chicago
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs which is housed within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research invites applicants for the position of Associate Director. This position is responsible for development and implementation of programs, policies and objectives related to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and serves as a central resource on postdoctoral training for the campus community.
This position serves as a resource and central point of contact for the postdoctoral community by answering questions, making appropriate referrals, and collaborating with existing campus units to expand opportunities for postdocs and well as coordinate external relations with area institutions; provides and coordinates research career development activities that support postdocs and faculty, including training in areas important for effective management of research activities and research personnel and development of media resources and content for the website. Additional responsibilities include developing a process and tools for complying with and implementing federal sponsors’ requirement of Individual Development Plans (IDPs); creating reports on topics impacting UIC’s postdocs, including benchmarking best practices, national trends and funding agencies initiatives and analyzing data regarding postdocs, and developing material for and hosting orientation sessions for newly hired UIC post docs and the faculty members that hire UIC postdocs. This positon collaborates with Human Resources, Colleges and units to ensure postdoctoral appointments are in accordance with the Postdoctoral Policy and the policy is communicated to all postdocs, mentors, and administrators. In coordination with Human Resources, develops offer and annual evaluation letters for postdocs to ensure compliance with University and Federal policies.
This position is a full-time (100%) benefits eligible position and requires strong communication skills, the ability to work diplomatically with many stakeholders, and a demonstrated record of creative problem solving.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: A Master’s degree is required; PhD is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of professional experience in an academic setting. Essential skills include excellent computer literacy, organizational, project management, interpersonal, communication, networking and collaborations skills. Exemplary writing, analytical, and data management skills. Demonstrated knowledge of guidelines for grants for Postdoctoral trainees, federal funding agencies and private foundations. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects, exercise considerable independent judgment, pay attention to detail, and committed to a client-centered approach to service delivery and administrative support. Experience developing and administering programs and workshops preferred. Familiarity with UIC departments and research institutes and policies is desirable.
