Senior Researcher, STEM Education Research Center, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR
The Center for Research on Lifelong STEM Learning invites applications for a full-time Senior Researcher position at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. This person will operate as a primary researcher and project lead on various externally funded STEM research and evaluation grants. In this role, the researcher will be responsible for developing methods, driving the workflow of projects, collaborating with partners, and collecting and analyzing data.
The researcher will be responsible to report research results to academic audiences, practitioners, partners, funding agencies and occasionally to public audiences. In addition, the Senior Researcher will participate in Center activities aimed at developing the strategic direction of the Center and may be involved in strategic planning, search committees, and other OSU service and initiatives.
Position Duties
- work with senior researchers to design surveys and other methods for data collection
- recruit and communicate with research participants
- collect, organize and analyze data using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies
- conduct appropriate literature reviews
- write up results in the form of grant reports, white papers, targeted summary reports and manuscripts for peer review
- present findings at conferences and other meetings as determined by supervisor
- disseminate findings to both academic and public audiences
- coordinate work between project partners to ensure consistent communication and use of research and data management protocols
- coordinate regular meetings and communication with project teams
- design and implement processes for effective project team communication and decision making
- assist in designing and delivering workshops
- maintain research communication documentation and other archives in compliance with ethical research standards
- recruit, manage, mentor, and evaluate undergraduate researcher(s) as needed
- track project contracts, budgets and reporting requirements for lead projects
- participate in center staff collaborations and meetings
- represent the center as assigned at OSU and external venues – scoping and planning for future center research projects including proposal development
- coordinate collaborative work with Center affiliates.
- collaborate with Director, Assoc. Dir. and other senior researchers on their projects
- participate in OSU teams working on Center related initiatives
- obtain training and/or engage with mentors towards enhancing skills directly applicable to the position and duties.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
- Masters Degree or PhD. in Education, Communications, or related field. Alternately, a Masters or PhD. in natural, physical or applied sciences with education/interpretation coursework or field experience, and/or social science research methods also acceptable.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex projects with multiple partners.
- Demonstrated experience independently designing a conducting research and program evaluation.
- Demonstrable ability to use both qualitative and quantitative approaches to understanding social science data.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity.
- Excellent oral and written communication skill
- Preferred (Special) Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge about the science of program evaluation.
- In-depth knowledge of citizen science program design and evaluation.
- Experience developing proposals for external funding.
- Experience conducting research in the citizen science and public engagement arenas.
